Abstract
This study examines the construction identities ronggeng Banyumas and ledhek Blora, in Ahmad Tohari's novel Ronggeng Dukuh Paruk and Budhi Sardjono's novel Ledhek dari Blora. This study uses Peter L. Berger and Thomas Luckmann's social construction theory and a comparative literary approach to identify comparisons between the construction of the identities of ronggeng and ledhek in both novels, which are set in Javanese culture. The findings of this study are (1) the reconstruction of the identity of Ronggeng Dukuh Paruk is formed through mystical beliefs, recognition of cultural authority figures, and a series of rituals; (2) the reconstruction of the identity of Ledhek dari Blora is formed through elements of art, hereditary factors, personal emotions, economics, and a series of rituals; (3) The similarity is that both ronggeng and ledhek were born in a Javanese setting marked by limited social and economic conditions, and they serve as entertainers as well as symbols of the cultural identity of the local community. The difference is that the identity of ronggeng is formed as a result of mystical beliefs, while the identity of ledhek is formed as a result of art, personal emotions, and family social dynamics.
